21 November: Despite a growing international interest in understanding the health and economic returns on investment in medical research, there has been relatively little formal analysis, particularly in Europe. A joint report coproduced with RAND Europe demonstrates substantial returns from such investment and highlights the importance of the time lag between basic research and health gain: the quicker research is translated from bench to bedside, the greater the rate of return.
